James turns 7 months old!

Stats: 28.5 inches long & 18 pounds

Sleep: Still not sleeping through the night! To be honest though, I think I have kind of surrendered to the cause. I have an awesome (seriously awesome!!) husband who gets up with James 2x a night. Once at 11 pm (Rob is still basically awake at this time) and then again at 4 am. I am a complete train wreck if I don't get enough sleep and so I am very grateful Rob gets up with James. He is getting better about not wanting a bottle when he wakes up though, just needs a little TLC then back to sleep. Maybe we are almost through the woods-?!

baby suspenders just kill me.

Eating: James started on solids this month! He started out with squash (after a week of oatmeal and rice cereal), which was totally not a hit. He went on a strike and wouldn't eat anything from a spoon for at least a week. After that week he caved and finally started eating again.

Things he likes: Oatmeal, green beans (they are his favorite!), sweet potatoes, carrots, apples, water (he thinks water is the best treat in the world!) I'm glad he likes the healthy stuff because I eat too much junk and need to be better about what I eat- I'm glad he doesn't take after me!

Things he hates: Rice cereal, puffs, anything sweet.

a happy boy after trying carrots for the first time

Sitting up on his own, getting up on all fours, rocking back and forth, he can take one little move forward with crawling, jabbering (blah blah blah blah)

trying out carriers- after about 3 we finally found one we liked.
We ended up with the Baby Bjorn (not pictured)

feeding puffs to ducks at the park-
it's all we had and James won't eat them anyway

Fun Facts:
-Went on an airplane for the first time
-Fed the ducks
-Had his first friends, Max and Hannah
-Went out to dinner and breakfast
-Moved up to size 3 diapers (they are still pretty big on him though)
-Went swimming again at the rec center

this guy LOVES bath time!

This past week Rob and I went to Washington D.C. for the first time. We decided this would probably be a good idea seeing as how we will be moving there this fall! I swear these past 3 years of Rob finishing up his undergraduate degree have gone so slowly until now. All of a sudden things are going so fast and I just can't keep up with them! Rob applied to law schools last fall, right about the time James was born (talk about stressful)! He was accepted at George Washington, Boston College, University of Washington, The University of Texas, and Georgetown. He has been wait listed at Cornell, Chicago, Northwestern, and Duke. It was a hard decision trying to decide which school would be the best for Rob's future, as well as for our little family. I was pulling for Texas because that is where my sister lives, but for whatever reason we feel like Washington, D.C. is where we need to be.

My best friend from growing up, Nicole, currently lives in Washington and she was so gracious to let us come spend a few days with them and get to know the city, as well as find housing. We looked through soooo many places. Seriously I was starting to get so over it. We saw places of all types: some garden style, some high-rises, some town houses, you name it and we saw it. All of the places were good but it was hard to find somewhere within our price range and that was the right size for our little family. We finally found a place we loved the best, which happened to be in a high-rise building (totally not what I was expecting). We think it will be perfect! We got to spend the rest of our time in DC hanging out with our friends and exploring our new city!

starting out on James' first flight-
he was loving the little TV's in the backs of the seats

Our New Place:

washer & dryer in unit!! WOOT WOOT
no more laundromat for me!

Our new dining room
likely going to be used as an office/music space

call me old fashioned, but I am so excited there
is a little vanity part so I can sit and do my makeup!

We are hoping we end up with a higher floor so we can
see views of downtown D.C.

Obviously, space comes at a huge premium in DC. We will be living in Alexandria, Virginia; about a 40 minute metro ride from Rob's school. (Even in Alexandria we are paying through our nose for our new little place. Totally different from what we are used to in Provo)

these little guys were such troopers for 2 straight
days of being stuck in the car driving between apartments

We got to go into the city to check out the law school

best buddies, Max (1) and James (6 months)

being tourists and seeing the Capitol

the boys got LOTS of play time in

Out to dinner at good eats
-seriously BEST milkshake of my life!-

Little man on the flight home-
he was a perfect angel the whole time

We had such a fun trip and are so grateful for Nicole and Dan's hospitality. The worst part of all of this is that they will be moving away from DC in the fall to go to grad school. We are totally bummed! But at least we will now be on the same side of the country so hopefully we can hang out a little more!

Thanks for a great time guys,
ready or not, here we come DC!!

6 Months!

I can't believe our little guy is already six months old! Seriously, where did the time go!? I find myself constantly saying, "This is the best age!" Granted 3-4 months was a little rough for us, but since that he has been awesome!

My Stats: 16 lbs, 9.5 ounces (33%). 28.5 inches long (99%), and 44 cm head circumference (71%)

Sleep: I am doing much better at naps this month! I am usually awake for 1.5-2 hours at a time and then I sleep for 1-2 hours. This makes it so I get about 4 naps in a day. During the night I sleep in about 4 hour stretches, though some nights I have done almost 9!

Eating: I am still taking 4-5 ounces every 3-4 hours. This is slightly less than I am supposed to be eating. I still have breastmilk most of the time but I am having formula more and more often. (Mom is going to wean off the pump before we go to Europe for the summer and she is having a really difficult time with this. Any positve comments about weaning are welcome!). The doctor said it is time to start doing more solids due to my weight curve dropping down. I have tried oatmeal, rice cereal, squash and sweet potatoes so far. Its messy, and I don't always love it, but so far oatmeal seems to be the only thing that doesn't give me the shivers up and down.

I Cry: Only when I am hungry or tired. I have developed a high pitched squeal though which I now do when I am mad.

Milestones: I can roll over on both sides now. I roll everywhere and have become very mobile in the last month! I can somehow scoot around when I see something I want (usually mama's phone). I have started getting up on all fours, but am not rocking back and forth yet. I can stand up next to something with the help of mom or dad. I am really good at picking things up and switching them between hands now. I reach for almost anything I see.

What people say about me: "He's so happy!" "He smiles so much!" "He looks exactly like you (to momma)" "He looks exactly like Rob!"

Fun Facts:
-Our little guy is seriously so mobile. It never ceases to amaze me how much he can move around without actually crawling.
-He loves being outside, going for walks and checking things out. He especially likes watching cars drive by.
-He tried a little taste of frozen yogurt this week, and it was not a hit. (just like everything else that comes on a spoon).
-We walked around the tulip festival this month and he loved seeing all of the flowers and colors.
-He has really started to get into reading books, and likes touch and feel books
-We flew kites for the first time this month
